Mythic pieces build in 1972 in WDR's electronic music studio in Cologne.
In the summer of 1972, Henri Pousseur produced in the WDR's electronic music studio in Cologne a set of pieces entitled "Eight Parabolic Studies". These were pieces with an average duration of half an hour produced "in real time", that is to say, without resorting to any sound tape cut-and-paste techniques - although this was general practice at the time - but rather, using modulation by voltage control. Eight pieces with each time a different mood. If Hymn To Ornithological Zeus, The Wings Of Icarus and Voyage To The Elements are subtile explorations of celestial elements, Aerial View Of Haiphong, mass is like the sound of a menacing flight of a superbomber - it ends with a cut up of Karlheinz Stockhausen 's voice.
Live, Henri Pousseur used 8 revox to produce his famous Parabolic Remix. It consists in mixing the 8 tracks during the course of a one-hour improvisation! What is incredible is that these pieces had never been published before. It's also our politic to explore the past.
