Claude Pailliot, Emeric Aelters, Gaëtan Collet, and Vincent Thierion were Tone Rec before they became Dat Politics, based in Lille, France. As Tone Rec, between 1997 and 1999, they produced 3 full-length albums for Sub Rosa + one extented remix project in 2000. Pholcus was their second opus and for many their masterpiece.
Last deconstruction form - despite this unconventional nature, much of the band's music is basically a form of heavily deconstructed techno, hardly inaccessible in its basic format but highly innovative all the same.

the Wire
''an inspirational collision of post-rock and heady electronics''
Alternative Press
''rare is music that's so beautiful it's disorienting''

''Tone Rec takes the randomly defective inside-out bell electronics of Oval and organises them into strangely dirty funk structures that sound like cyber-contorted mirror images of Massive Attack's heartfelt soundscapes''
