Morphica follows Mikhail Karikis's enthusiastically received debut album Orphica (2007) in an unprecedented genre-bending interdisciplinary feast. Morphica re-imagines the notion of the music 'remix' and expands to the realms of visual art and creative writing.

Described by Mikhail as a project about "finding a common cause in uncommon ground", MORPHICA explores the theme of transformation and politics of difference. Having as its starting point the morphing of Mikhail's debut album, MORPHICA features a triple album with studio and live concert recordings of collaborations with over 20 international musicians ranging from pioneering DJs to acclaimed early-music choirs, contemporary composers and performers:

CD 1: electronics
CD 2: voices
CD 3: strings

Contained in a hand crafted limited edition box-set designed by Mikhail & Assembly, the work is accompanied by 15 art prints by diverse artists who respond to the music and and remix visuals. New poems of 'remixed' lyrics and contextual essays complete Morphica's multi-sensory adventure.

Gathered from 5 continents, the lineup of artists in Mikhail's new album includes DJ Spooky, early-music choir Alamire (formed with members from the Hilliard Ensemble, the Sixteen, the Tallis Scholars and I Fagiolini), experimental British composer Claudia Molitor, Paul Abbott, German electro-minimalist Telekaster, Lee Fraser, avant-jazz vocalist E:laine, Irish composer Conall Gleeson, pianist extraordinaire Leon Michener, Juice Vocal Ensemble, Belgian Rob(u)rang and Bobby Krlic; visual artists include celebrated British Afro-Caribbean artist Sonia Boyce, Uriel Orlow, Stephen Wilson, Israeli performance artist Oreet Ashery, Eva Weaver, Farina Alam, Ruth Maclennan, Romanian fashion designer Rozalb de Mura, Korean installation artist Ahn Sung Hee, Malaysian designer K.Y.Low and animators Paul Gittins and Paul Bloomfield; authors include Irish poet Cherry Smyth, Chris McCormack, cultural theorist Kersten Glandien and Sub Rosa's co-director Guy-Marc Hinant.

MIKHAIL biography
Greek-born and London-based Mikhail Karikis studied music in his native country before moving to London to train in architecture with avant-garde team Archigram and art at The Slade. Coined by critics a 'sound alchemist' (Le Monde) and a 'primitive futurist' (French National Radio), Mikhail's practice is embraced by the concert hall, the art gallery and the world of design. The first international release of his music was by Björk (One Little Indian), followed by his album Orphica (Sub Rosa, 2007) to international critical recognition. Orphica fuses glitch electronica with environmental recordings, Greek folk and a neo-baroque aesthetic marked by Mikhail's distinctive part-avant-garde and part-Middle-Eastern vocal style.

Mikhail has been developing highly visceral, abstract and visual live performances with collaborators from across different genres and disciplines ranging from numerous early-music and avant-garde vocal groups including members of The Hilliard Ensemble, The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars, Cantamus Choir and Juice Voice Ensemble, with Scratch the Surface Ensemble, Emerald String Ensemble, with visual artists Sonia Boyce, Oreet Ashery, Zineb Sedira, Uriel Orlow, The Neo-Futurist Collective and others. Often compared to Kate Bush or Scott Walker, Mikhail's work has featured on compilation albums alongside Aphex Twin, Steve Reich, DJ Spooky, Scanner, Björk, Ikeda, Sonic Youth and others on One Little Indian, Sub Rosa records, Aphasia Recordings, Panic Arrest and MIT Press. His work has been shown at Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, the BFI, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Whitstable Biennale, Milton Keynes Gallery, De La Warr Pavilion, Model Arts Gallery (Ireland), Musée des Beaux Arts de Nîmes, the Wapping Project, Blancpain Art Contemporain and elsewhere.
